FAQ

How do I get started with therapy?

  1. Consult: Free initial 15-30min consult to see if we’re a good fit.

  2. First Session: If we decide it’s a good fit through the initial consult, we move to the intake process and continue to build on our initial conversation by deepening understanding around your goals, your background, and start to learn more about you as whole person.

  3. Plan: Next we develop a plan of what you want to work on. If you know exactly what you want to work on, great. It’s also very much okay if you’re not sure, and in that case, we’ll create a more unstructured plan and figure out more as we get to know each other.

  4. Get To Work: After that, we get to work on carrying out the plan and check in on progress as we go, adjusting as needed. We’ll continue to check in throughout our time working together. I’m very open to continual feedback.

Are you able to fix my problems?

To me, therapy is more about collaborating with you than fixing any part of you. We’ll work together to address the issues and reinforce your strengths. I follow the advice of Michael White (the creator of Narrative Therapy) - "The person isn’t the problem, the problem is the problem.” We’ll move to separate the problem from you as a person, try to understand it better, and make adjustments where needed.

Do I have to know exactly what I want to talk about in therapy?

Nope. Many of my client’s come to therapy with a jumble of thoughts and emotions, that’s okay. We can sift through them together and start to form a path forward. For many, having a supportive and nonjudgmental place to process can help by itself.

Can therapy be funny?

Yes! Humor can absolutely be a part of therapy. It can be healing to laugh in therapy and at ourselves sometimes. If it’s not your thing, that’s okay too.
